o eek!
it's a geekgirl!
"After a year´s aimless surfing--hearing of American college boys´ dicks and 1001 recipes for cupcakes — finally something worth reading." Bloody marvellous revolution-modemgrrrl-style-now affair. They've got Kathy Acker on a motor(d)yke, Saint Noam of Chomper (you do call him Chomper, don't you?), South Australia's mathboyyy-(e)mathsculating VNS Matrix - hell, they've got everyone! Two issues to date, more on thee way, plus there's a wee paper version you can subscribe to. Absolutely fabulous (or is that a bit too essentialist for you?) :-) GRRRLS NEED MODEMS!
o CTHEORY
A way-cool cultural theory/postmodern discourse e-zine, edited by Jean Baudrillard and Kathy Acker (amongst others). Apparently it's a bit too cool for the University of Columbia, who are trying to shut it down. Fight the power!
o INTRRR NRRRD E-zine of great beauty. Punk/DIY evangelism, cultural theory, techno toys. Hallelujah brothrrrs and sistrrrs!
o Factsheet 5 archives
Electronic version of thee u/ground Bible. Thousands of reviews (thats T-H-O-U-S-A-N-D-S). If your zine / comic / record / video / book hasn't been reviewed here, you basically don't exist. Your entire existence has been for nothing. That's all there is to it. Now w/ handy searchable index (joy!). The current issue is
here.
o HotWired What WIRED magazine's digital twin lacks in worthwhile copy it makes up for with technical innovation -- and then some! Lots of HTML "firsts" here: graphic design-driven non-linear layout, clever and innovative use of login scripts, usernames, smart "what's new" page, online chat, threaded discussion groups. As for the content... wellllllll... Does the word "hype" mean anything to you?
o EYE Weekly Toronto's Internet Arts Magazine. Film, performance, gallery and indie music reviews, netgossip and current affairs. Attractive, functional layout, mercifuly devoid of HotWired's MTV-ishness. A quality publication: the articles are actually worth reading!
o Underdog Zine "Danger: Punk music here." Non-profit Chicago punk/DIY collective organ, described in Factsheet 5 as "the MRR of Chicago." High praise! Back issues of paper zine available here, plus zipped ascii text of each issue. Now if only the real MRR would follow suit... :-)
o Spontaneous Combustion Long-running Chicago punk/hardcore zine, now online.
