Any questions?
o Sound Wire Thee thinking person's CDnow or what?! Complete, searchable, interactive on-line indie mail order catalogue, with everything you ever wanted from Bar/None, Cleopatra, D-Tox, DejaDisc, Drag City, Dromedary, Earache, Knitting Factory, Mammoth, Matador, Pop Narcotic, Shrimper, Sonic Bubblegum, spinART, Taang!, Zero Hour and a host of others, plus videos, zines and 7" vinyl. Friendly interface, with interactive shopping carts, samples, album cover scans, artist info, the whole nine kilometres... Phew! And check their what's new section for stuff which hasn't even hit the shops yet.
o Parasol The cyber-equivalent of those badly photocopied mail-order catalogues we all know and love, from Illinois' Parasol Records. A complete lack of online searchability and CGI-driven user friendliness belies the heaps of good stuff to be found, including warez from thee major indie distributors as well as Parasol's own Cowboy, Spin Girl, thee Vertebrats, and (through punk subsidiary Mud) Corndolly, Sixteen Tons and Hardvard. Even better, they've got stacks of second hand-vinyl! Who knows, you might find that rare 1980 Les Disques des Crepuscules pressing of "Licht Und Blindheit" with thee alternate version of "Atmospheres" on it. As they say in Jamaica, "Check e'towt mon!"
o CDnow! Order every major label release ever recorded anywhere from the Internet's answer to thee Virgin Megastore. It's big, it's soulless, and it's got 140,000 titles online, including a couple of large indie distro catalogues. Beware P&P: airmail to Aust. is $US14.39 for up to three CDs, plus more thereafter.
o books.com Spiffy online bookstore w/ 330,000 big papery things in stock. Search by title, author, or subject. Cheep postage (~$US3 for surface mail only at present, but they promise airmail like, real soon now).
o INTERTAIN bookstore Catalogue has 216,000 titles. Search by author or title. Seems to be cheaper than Book Stacks. Free p/p until Christmas 1994! (Yeah, er, great)
